A Hat in Time, an ode to the 3D platformers of old, is heading where it belongs…to the Nintendo Switch!
A Hat in Time is an enjoyable 3D platformer which is reminiscent of old school Nintendo 64 era games such as Mario 64 or Banjo-Kazooie. Currently it has overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam, (unlike other similar 3D platformes), and is still getting support in form of DLCs as well as a new co-op mode.
You may wonder what is newsworthy in another port coming to Switch? Well the main reason is that the creators of the game have previously stated that A Hat in Time won’t see a Switch release. This caused some controversy at the time looking at the fact that A Hat in Time is heavily inspired by Nintendo titles, and it honestly seemed as a weird decision.
Some more skeptical people (like yours truly) believed that the creators of the game feared the releasing their Mario 64 inspired game close to the release of Super Mario Odyssey, which is a mistake that Yooka-Laylee had made.
Either way we are getting A Hat in Time on a console it feels like it was meant to be on, and that’s a good news.
