Disney Infinity Cancelled, Avalanche Software Shuttered

The movie making giant failed to impress at an investor’s briefing, and earlier today announced the shuttering of Avalanche Software, the developers for Disney Infinity. The game was cancelled as of earlier today, and would no longer see content following the release of three new characters in the Alice in the Looking Glass and Finding Dory packs.

While the Walt Disney Company has praised the efforts behind Infinity, the video gaming division Disney Interactive (also being shuttered following a decision to move into licensing) faced massive losses to the tune of $147 million. In a blog post at Disney Interactive, the team spoke of their initial goal with the title:

“Our goal for Disney Infinity was to bring the best of Disney storytelling to life in homes around the world, and with your support we accomplished that. We hope you had as much fun playing the game as we had making it.”

With over 300 jobs lost at Avalanche Software, developers have opened their arms to the staff seeking jobs amidst the loss, showing strong solidarity for the team, whose efforts brought toys to life in the video gaming medium.

  1. Wrong.

Avalanche Studios (Mad Max, Just Cause 3) is not the same as Avalanche Software (Disney Infinity).
