Episode 23 of our gaming podcast, GPS (The Gamer Professionals Show), is now live! This week we are covering two very unique games: Pyre and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.
At the top of the show, we discuss some of the games that we have been playing including What Remains of Edith Finch, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Get Even, and the Starfire update for Injustice 2. The slew of great end-of-summer releases are not yet upon us, so we are taking care of our backlogs.
News continues to be slow, but there is a lot of discussion surrounding the inclusion of microtransactions to Middle Earth: Shadow of War. The new DLC expansion for Horizon: Zero Dawn called The Frozen Wilds has a release date of November 7th. In a surprising announcement, the creators of Spelunky, Downwell, and a few other studios are working on a compilation of 50 8-bit games called UFO 50 in a very ambitious project. Lastly, Valve unveiled their first new game in over a decade called Artifact. Excitement was through the roof until it was revealed to be a collectible card game set in the Dota 2 universe.
We’ve spent some time this week with Pyre, the new game from Supergiant who previously developed Bastion and Transistor. This game is very unique, living somewhere between a visual novel and and NBA Jam-style sports game. With excellent character development, an intriguing story, and beautiful artwork, it’s a fantastic game to jump into during this slow period.
Lastly, we have an extensive discussion on Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice which has been on everyone’s radar due to its beautiful art style and unique focus on mental health. It’s a very worthwhile game, though it does suffer from some repetition in both the combat and puzzle mechanics. Look for our review of it this week.
