New Infinity Gauntlet Mode available now for Fortnite

If I asked you what is the hottest movie out right now, chances are you would probably say Avengers: Infinity War. While in the video game industry, Fortnite‘s popularity continues to grow. Have you ever wondered what a crossover between the two would look like? Well you no longer have to imagine because for a limited time, you can play as Thanos in a new Fortnite mode that’s available right now.

The mode is called Infinity Gauntlet mode and it starts out like a regular solo match. Players are dropped on to the island and you must fight to survive. The catch is players are trying to find the infinity gauntlet. Once a player finds the gauntlet, they turn into Thanos. Thanos has 700 health points and has 300 shield. While you cannot earn your health back, if you kill an enemy as Thanos, you get your full shield back. You can charge your jump to jump very high in the air. This is very helpful for if you need to escape a gunfight. You can use your super punch both on the ground and in the air. If activated in the air, you slam into the ground for a devastating attack. You can also shoot out a powerful laser that destroys your opponents. If you are able to kill Thanos and get his Infinity Gauntlet, then you turn into Thanos.

This crossover should come to no surprise because the directors of the movie, Joe and Anthony Russo, are fans of the game. With an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Russo brothers talk about their appreciation of the game and the talks they had with Donald Mustard, the worldwide creative director of Epic Games. “Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games,” Joe exclusively told EW. “And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers–Fortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald.”

The appreciation goes both ways according to Donald Mustard. “Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas,” Mustard recalled. “It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about. About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started.” Have you been wreaking havoc as Thanos in Fortnite?
