On the heels of Starfire’s release, gamers just got their first look at the next three fighters to join Injustice 2’s already impressive line-up. This second fighter pack showcases Black Manta, Hellboy, and Mortal Kombat’s Raiden.
Although fans of Injustice 2 have long suspected Black Manta and Raiden’s inclusion in the game, as their black outlines teased in previous announcements are pretty hard to miss or confuse, Hellboy is a welcome surprise.
Three New Faces
For those unfamiliar with the characters, here is a quick recap.
Devil of the Deep
Black Manta is the main nemesis of Aquaman. He is a brilliant scientist who builds a high-tech diving suit that allows him to go toe-to-toe with the King of the Sea on his home turf. He is also the father of Aquaman’s sidekick Aqualad.
Not Your Average Static Shock
Raiden is one of the original fighters from the very first Mortal Kombat. A guardian of Earthrealm, Raiden has been a fan favorite of the Mortal Kombat community that uses his powers over lightning to electrocute enemies into a bloody puddle. Like Sub-Zero, I assume this version of Raiden will be a less murderous interpretation of the character.
Hellboy is a demon that came to Earth as an infant. He shaves his horns to appear less human (seemingly forgetting that he is red and has an arm that is strong enough to withstand pretty much anything). He loves his cigars and acts like a wisecracking big shot. However, underneath it all, he is just a big softie that wants to be loved.
How Will They Play?
I think it is safe to assume that Raiden will fight similarly to his Mortal Kombat counterpart, and then have a few new tricks up his sleeve. Black Manta and Hellboy are mysteries though. If I had to guess, I would say that Black Manta will use a lot of physical and technological attacks, and behave like a slower, but more powerful variation of Cyborg. I think Hellboy is going to be a lot like Swampthing and just be a bruiser that can tank some hits, with the ability to use his arm for some mean grabs and guns for some long range combos.
