Quantum Break, the upcoming highly ambitious new Xbox One-exclusive title from Remedy Entertainment will debut new gameplay footage at this year’s Game Awards, which will take place on December 3rd. Known for their episodic storytelling in games like Max Payne and Alan Wake, Remedy’s Quantum Break is a fascinating blend of action-shooter and television show. Previously it had been revealed that Quantum Break’s gameplay will be accompanied by four live-action 22 minute television episodes that are interwoven throughout the game and affected by decisions that the player makes. The premise and storyline have been covered thoroughly, but there has not been much insight as to how the game will actually play.
In addition to the new gameplay footage, Geoff Keighley, organizer and curator of the Game Awards, has announced that there will also be a further look into the live-action TV aspect of Quantum Break. This reveal will be presented by Quantum Break’s lead actor Shawn Ashmore, of X-Men fame.
Remedy has dabbled in TV show-influenced games before, though never on a scale of this magnitude. Max Payne stylistically mimics a gritty noir TV show, complete with harsh voiceover narratives from the lead character. Alan Wake is an episodic horror journey that even features a fictional in-game TV show called Night Springs, which is a direct homage to Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone.
Quantum Break is to be one of at least 10 exclusive reveals occurring at this year’s Game Awards. Other notable reveals include the first Far Cry Primal gameplay footage and a new fighter DLC for Mortal Kombat X.
