A Hat in Time for the Nintendo Switch Finally Gets a Release Date

A Hat in Time, the adorable 3D platformer, which initially released back in 2017, has finally gotten a confirmed release date for the upcoming Nintendo Switch version.  The Switch version was originally announced back in 2018, and now has a confirmed release date of October 18th, 2019.

The developer, Gears for Breakfast, created A Hat in Time to be a homage to old-school 3D platformers like Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, and Super Mario Sunshine, which involved a lot of item collecting, commonly referred to as the “collectithon.”  The game had a very successful Kickstarter campaign which indicated that demand for 3D platformers is still very high in today’s gaming market.  When it released late last year, the game was met with critical acclaim and has since sold over one million copies.

Those who purchase the physical version for the Nintendo Switch will also receive the Seal the Deal DLC content, which had previously only released for the PC version of the game.  PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players have yet to receive this content, with Gears for Breakfast still not indicating when the content will release on those platforms.  Seal the Deal added a whole new chapter to the main story, a new challenge mode, photo filters, and several unique cosmetic items.

The base Nintendo Switch version will also add local co-op play, which is the first time this feature has come to a console version of the game.  The Switch version will likely cost $30, which is the current price on all other platforms.
