A surprise that seemingly came out of nowhere, an Assassin’s Creed and Final Fantasy XV crossover is happening. Ubisoft and Square Enix are collaborating to create new and unique content for their fans.

First announced at Gamescom 2017, the talks of a collaboration started three years ago in an informal meeting during the Tokyo Game Show. Ubisoft Senior Manager Giancarlo Varanini posted details about the collaboration. In the blog, he writes about the reveal image, opportunities Gamescom Attendees have at the show and much more. In the blog there’s also a quote from Ashraf Ismail who is the game director at Ubisoft Montreal. He says, “This collaboration is the result of being huge fans. There’s a lot of respect between the two teams and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the opportunity to pay homage made between the two franchises”. In the blog, Giancarlo also talks about how eagle-eyed fans may have spotted some Easter eggs teasing the collaboration in certain trailers. Those trailers being Final Fantasy XV trailer from last November, the Assassin’s Creed Origins Announcement and Gamescom trailer.

The crossover will first start with Final Fantasy XV and a new trailer shows off what to expect. On August 30th, Final Fantasy XV players will be able to unlock an Assassin’s outfit for Noctis. The outfit is unlocked if players have collected the Moogle Chocobo Carnival event’s Dream Egg. A day later, August 31st, the free DLC titled Assassin’s Festival DLC will be made available for the game. Some new content to expect is a transformed version of Lestalium which will offer new activities, themed items, and features. There will also be another Assassin’s Creed outfit to download. This festival will give players the ability explore the game in the style of Ubisoft’s franchise while also using some of the Assassin’s Abilities.

There has been no word yet what Assassin’s Creed Origins will do to pay homage to Final Fantasy XV. Final Fantasy XV is out now and Assassin’s Creed Origins releases in October 27th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. An Xbox One X version of Assassin’s Creed Origins will be available on the console’s launch day of November 7th.
