The release date for Overwatch, Blizzard’s upcoming multiplayer shooter has been leaked, courtesy of advertising images posted on IGN. The popular gaming news site quickly withdrew the ad postings, but the damage was done, with several screenshots floating around the internet serving as evidence of the mishap. Overwatch is set to launch on May 24th, with a beta period opening a full three-weeks prior for pre-purchasers.

In official word from Blizzard, progress made in the beta period will not carry over to the full release. Previous testing periods have resulted in a widely positive response, with many praising the creativity in design, as well as the fast and fluid gameplay. Overwatch will be available on PC, as well as Xbox One and PS4, though compatibility between systems will not be supported. Additional characters and maps will be made available in the post-launch period free of charge.
