Vince Zampella, CEO of Respawn Entertainment, recently revealed (in a press release on Electronic Arts’ official website) that Apex Legends has reached 10 million players in just 72 hours. That was done with a player base estimated at one million concurrent players. In the press release, Vince stated that they knew it would be a risky approach making Apex free-to-play, but they were excited to let players get their hands on the game and try it for themselves. According to Vince, Respawn spent time “testing, tweaking, arguing, and agreeing” until they finally got to a point where they “felt some magic”. Vince emphasized that for Respawn, working on Apex Legends has been “a truly incredible journey.” Vince also had this to say about the positive reception that Apex has received during launch week,
“We hoped you’d love it as much as us, but never in our wildest dreams could we have expected the outpouring of support and positivity we’ve seen.”
“From all of us at Respawn, thank you for giving us and Apex Legends a chance. Thank you for joining us on this journey. This is just the beginning! We have so much more in store for you this year.”
A roadmap showcasing what Apex Legends players can look forward to up until December has also been released. With a Battle Pass, new Legends, new weapons, and new loot, Respawn is giving players plenty of reasons to return to the game over time.
