AGDQ Concludes With Over $2.3 Million For Charity

Awesome Games Done Quick 2019

Twice a year the folks over at Games Done Quick host a week-long event where players from all over the world gather in a hotel ballroom to speedrun fantastic games for the benefit of charity. Awesome Games Done Quick is the winter event that they host yearly, and this time around all of the donations went to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The week long festivities hit a new record this year with over $2.3 million being donated by nearly 50,000 gamers watching the stream, many of whom have been effected by cancer in their lives. As donations rolled in after the finale of the event, and including proceeds from Twitch subscription, Awesome Games Done Quick’s total landed at $2,422,764.

Awesome Games Done Quick 2019

Awesome Games Done Quick and Summer Games Done Quick are up there with my favorite events in gaming. It is incredible to see so many people come together to support passionate speedrunners and to fight an enemy of nearly every person, cancer. Some of my favorite runs from this year include:

  • Hollow Knight (run by Vysuals, which you can see below),
  • Octopath Traveler (Run by Murmilio, because everyone needs a little more Tressa in their life),
  • Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (mastefully run by Satoryu),
  • and the four and a half hour run of NieR: Automata (by Fullest, a very talented runner).

There are so many more great speedruns, be sure to check out their YouTube channel.
