Recently, Microsoft announced that Original Xbox games will be playable as backwards compatible titles later this year. They will look better, play better, but according to the corporate vice president of Xbox, Mike Ybarra, they won’t be receiving anything extra in the way of Achievements. While this may come as a disappointment to some, Achievements weren’t added to backwards compatible titles on the 360 either, but the addition in this generation would have been a welcome surprise. Check out the tweet for yourself here, or just cast your gaze slightly downwards.

Achievements were introduced in the Xbox 360 era, so it would require some measure of modification to go back and implement Achievements into Original titles. Even so, Sony have added Trophies to PS2 games when they become available, so what’s the difference? PS2 games are modified to run on the PS4, so the graphics can be enhanced and Trophies can be added, whereas the Xbox simply emulates the previous consoles to play games. This means the older games cannot be modified in any way.

What do you think of this piece of news? Were you hoping that Achievements were going to be added to Xbox Original games? Personally, adding Achievements would have made me more likely to play them. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
