Recent musings within the video game industry have been whispering about the possibility of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild not being a launch title for the Nintendo Switch. Thanks to a slip-up on Target’s online retail storefront, it seem likely that the game will be released quite a while after the Switch.

Earlier today, Target had Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild listed for release on June 13th, 2016. That date has since been removed from their website.

Target Breath of the Wild

Nintendo has yet to announce the official release date for both their newest console, the Switch, or the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Rumors and speculation have listed the Switch for release sometime in March of 2017, putting it much earlier than the Target release date for Breath of the Wild. So it is looking more and more unlikely that Breath of the Wild will be the first game we play on the Switch. Nintendo has announced that they will provide more technical information as well as the official release date for the Switch in Q1 2017, so tune-in again around that time.

  • And just like that, the Nintendo Switch is no longer a necessary preorder for me. Now, Target could have just made a mistake and the game will indeed be launching with the console but things like this have happened and been proven true before so I’m not optimistic. Twilight Princess is the reason a lot of people bought the Wii (myself included). I can’t believe that Nintendo would fail to capitalize on such an easy sell by launching this console and game at the same time.
