New World Interactive, the creators of hit FPS Insurgency, have just announced their second title: Day of Infamy.

A World War II-themed shooter, Day of Infamy is technically an expansion of Insurgency, but it is completely standalone and does not require ownership of Insurgency. It previously existed as a mod, but New World picked it up and funded it to create an official title.

Like its predecessor, Day of Infamy is a terribly unforgiving first person shooter, focused on the completion of objectives throughout the match. Along with the World War II settings comes a variety of weaponry from the era, with the classic M1 Garands to Thompson SMGs to “potato mashers.”

Players must avoid all kinds of threats on the battlefield.

Mortar strikes are a constant threat to players, and players must learn to communicate effectively to remain out of artillery fire. However, voice chat can be heard from all sides, so if you’re near an enemy, be sure to whisper, otherwise you’ll be found quickly.

Day of Infamy launches on Steam Early Access next month.
