Paladins: Battlegrounds

Last year, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds took the world by storm and popularized the Battle Royale genre in video games. Many developers recently have tried to copy PUBG‘s success. The latest seems to be Developer Hi-Rez, who has just announced their new Battle Royale mode titled Paladins: Battlegrounds.

Paladins: Battlegrounds is, as of right not, planned to be a free-to play game. This mode will drop 100 players into 20 minute matches on a large maps. The size of the maps in this mode will be around 300 times the size of a regular multiplayer map. Teams will scavenge the land to find as much loot as possible to help them survive. Loot can be obtained by finding an outpost, which there are reportedly over four dozen (outposts) in the mode.  You can also try to take down zeppelins that drops legendary gear upon destruction. Players will have to stay on their toes as fog begins to limit the map for players. In short, the last team standings wins the game. Battlegrounds has a 2018 release date and a beta will come before the final release.

Ahead of the new Battle Royale mode, Paladins will also be adding new content. The first of the new changes will come January 10th on PC and January 17th on consoles. In one of the upcoming updates, a new team death-match mode will be added. Along with the new mode, a new hero has been announced and marks the 35th hero added to the game. Moji is a Flank hero who rides a two-headed dragon. There will also be the new addition of Battle Cats, which are a new mount type. The first Battle Cat is the Primal Prowler, but not every player will be able to get their hands on it. Only Twitch Prime subscribers can get the Primal Prowler.

We saw last year PUBG‘s developer Bluehole, now known as PUBG Corp, considering legal actions against the developers of Fortnite: Battle Royale. It will be interesting to see if Hi-Rez’s new mode upsets the PUBG developers and what their actions will be.
