Dragon Quest XI Confirmed for Nintendo NX

Despite the fact that we still have no confirmed information on the NX itself, Nintendo continues to announce titles that will launch on their upcoming console. Next up: Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time.

In the latest issue of Nintendo Dream, Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii, Pokémon series producer Junichi Masuda, and Super Smash Bros. series director Masahiro Sakuri all sat down for a roundtable discussion about their respective franchises. The entire conversation was translated by Gematsu.

Throughout the interview, Horii confirms the existence of Dragon Quest XI on the NX, alongside the PS4 and 3DS versions of the game. The Dragon Quest creator also insisted that the three editions will release simultaneously in order to avoid spoilers for the gamers. Considering the release date falls in late May of 2017, this leads to more evidence of a NX March 2017 release.

Horii also spoke about the challenge of developing the newest Dragon Quest. Because the game will release on three very different consoles, Horii spoke about how his development team had to produce three different versions of the game, and the challenges that come with that.

Whether or not this lends credence to how different the NX is as a console, with rumored cartridges instead of discs for the mobile console, we will just have to wait for Nintendo to officially announce the console. With an NX release date this coming March, we have to guess that an official announcement must be coming soon.

Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time is due for release in Japan on May 27th, 2017 for the NX, PS4, and 3DS.
