With a move that nobody saw coming, EA announced that they had bought Respawn Entertainment on Nov. 9th for a whopping $455 million. EA paid the studio $151 million up front with the rest of the agreement being that another $164 million would be paid out over a span of four years in “long term equity” and a long term consideration sum of $140 million paid out. The Titanfall series is one of the most recognizable names to come out of this studio and we are getting a glimpse into the future of the series after something of quite a large magnitude for the studio.

In August of 2017, Respawn had mentioned that we would see more from the Titanfall series in the future. Neither EA or Respawn had stated explicitly that it would be Titanfall 3 but we can speculate that it will be something close to a third entry into the series. CEO of Respawn Entertainment, Vince Zampella, stated that the move “brings the resources and support” for the future endeavors of the studio. This suggests that they had not forgotten about their previous promise of more Titanfall to come regardless of the EA purchase. There is currently no word on when this new entry into the Titanfall franchise is set to release but it is good to know that this acquisition by EA has not currently affected development of the new game.

This sounds like a good move for both companies, as EA gets another studio under their belt and Respawn Entertainment gets more funding and assets for future projects. We get another entry into the Titanfall universe and potentially more titles to look forward to from Respawn Entertainment. Sounds like everyone involved, especially the gamers, win with this acquirement.

But what you think? The news that EA buys Respawn Entertainment is sure to have people remembering what happened to the BioWare Montreal and Visceral studios. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
