At PAX East, Gearbox officially announced that their next game in development will be the third Borderlands game. Development will begin after Battleborn and its DLC is completed. This is awesome news for any Borderlands fan. We have been waiting.
“It’s no secret, obviously there’s going to be another Borderlands,” Gearbox CEO and president Randy Pitchford said.
Gearbox chief creative champion Mikey Neumann, voice actor for Scooter, will be writing for the game and the art director for Battleborn, Scott Kester is said to reprise his role for the new game. With this in mind, we can expect some of the same comedy styles and character flavors we have grown to love from this series. I call these games couch co-op, cartoon versions of Mad Max with just a taste of hysteria.
Not much has been said about the new this project. Will it be on Pandora? Or maybe it’s moon Elpis? Perhaps we will see an entirely new world. It’s obvious the overall story is not finished and we may have a while to wait still. No significant information was shared, but when asked if it would be called Borderlands 3, Randy Pitchford replied.
“We don’t even know if we’re going to call it that. We could call it Borderlands 4 for all we know,”
All that we know is Gearbox plans to extend the life of this great series after it’s current project. They have placed several Borderlands easter eggs inside Battleborn, which is something the studio is great at doing. However these have all been related to previous Borderlands games. The studio is playing with the idea of putting more ‘eggs’ into Battleborn’s DLC as spoilers for the new project. No release date has been given yet but it is confirmation that the series isn’t finished.
