Episode 21 of our gaming podcast, The Gamer Professionals Show (GPS) is now live! We’ve got three longtime Destiny players on the show this week who are ready to offer up all their impressions on the Destiny 2 beta.
In the news, we discuss retro classic consoles with the announcement of two new nostalgia-driven releases. The Sega Genesis Flashback and Atari Flashback Gold are being released this fall by AtGames, which offer some quality games and a lot of shovelware. Aaryn Flynn, longtime studio general manager and vice president of BioWare, is finally leaving the company after 17 years. Stepping in to replace him is Casey Hudson, who was also a longtime BioWare director. Hudson left the company in 2014 but is eager to return to the studio that he calls home. We speculate that the changeover could have had something to do with the mediocre reception of Mass Effect Andromeda, but nothing is confirmed.
Telltale had some exciting announcements from San Diego Comic Con, developing new seasons for Batman, The Walking Dead, and The Wolf Among Us. Nintendo have finally launched their voice chat functionality, which has proven to be a disaster. Most people speculated that having that feature housed on a smartphone app would be a bad idea, but nobody was prepared for it to be this bad.
At the end of the show, we have our much-anticipated discussion about the Destiny 2 beta. While it is more of the Destiny that we love, they’ve added some new features such as two primary weapon slots and a more story-driven narrative. We’ve tested out all aspects of the beta, including the new social space called The Farm, and give our detailed analysis.
