Last of Us Part II Has a Strong Showing at Sony’s E3 Conference

Sony and Naughty Dog gave us a pretty extensive preview of their highly-anticipated title The Last of Us Part II. It was the first game in Sony’s E3 line-up, and an incredible way to kick off the show. Check out the video above to see the game in action.

Naughty Dog finally demoed gameplay of Ellie, a very beloved character, who returns from the first game. The trailer starts out in an almost pre-apocalyptic social setting, but the quickly jumps into the gritty, heart-pounding, kill-or-be-killed action that we expect from the series. The gameplay segment starts with stealth, which was a very core mechanic in the original game. Later in the demo we are shown a new ability, the the option to hide under a vehicle. It appears, however, that enemies will check for the player under abandoned cars as Ellie is quickly discovered while hiding. We also see Ellie using her the bow, another familiar thing returning from the first game. When the game breaks out of stealth and into combat, there seems to be a new option of dodging in a way that keeps combat focused on close-quarter encounters. Combat seems to switch seamlessly into stealth as soon as you break your enemy’s line-of-sight. Whether or not that was polished up for the demo is hard to tell, but hopefully it’s fully a part of The Last of Us Part II.

No release date has been given yet for The Last of Us Part II, but it’s almost certainly not coming this year. Regardless of when it’s released, it will be quickly picked up by fans.
