With October just around the corner, 2K has launched the first of six videos in a new series showcasing their upcoming juggernaut, Mafia III.
The video series follows a United States Select Committee on Intelligence agent interviewing John Donovan, the CIA handler for protagonist Lincoln Clay. In this series, Donovan explains the crime and violence that rules the underworld of New Bordeaux — Mafia III’s re-imagined version of New Orleans.
Fair warning: this video is NSFW.
The video highlights the 10 districts of New Bordeaux, from the industrial to blue collar, and from the poor to the rich. Mafia III promises unique areas throughout the city all connected by one simple aspect: violence. Post-Vietnam New Orleans is a hotbed for criminal and violent activity, and the 10 districts of New Bordeaux don’t try and hide that.
Gameplay shown throughout the first video emphasizes the violent struggle the player will face while controlling Lincoln through this story. Whether it is against the Irish Mob, the Italian Mob, the Black Mob, the police, or the KKK, 2K promises a violent end to what certainly is a violent beginning.
Mafia III follows Lincoln Clay, a bi-racial orphan and Vietnam War Veteran in 1968 New Bordeaux. Lincoln is one of the few survivors of an Italian Mob attack on the Black Mob. Seeking his revenge, Lincoln forms his own criminal organization, and takes the war back to New Bordeaux.
Lincoln will be aided by three important allies: Cassandra, Burke, and Vito Scaletta. This highlights Mafia III’s important lieutenant system. Once capturing new areas of New Bordeaux, Lincoln can assign one of his lieutenants to that location. The dynamic between his lieutenants, and his relationship with each of them, is just another part of Mafia III players will balance throughout the fight for New Bordeaux.
Mafia III releases on October 7th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
