Metal Gear Survive Revealed at Gamescom

After Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima’s departure from Konami, fans everywhere have been wondering what the fate of the Metal Gear franchise would be. Today, at Gamescom, Konami announced the next chapter in the long running series: Metal Gear Survive. Sets as a kind of epilogue, Metal Gear Survive takes place immediately following the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Members of the Militaires Sans Frontières, instead of meeting their fate as the ending of Metal Gear Solid V presented, are transported/teleported to a new location where they are immediately attacked by zombies. You can watch the Gamescon trailer for Metal Gear Survive below:

Metal Gear Survive is suppose to improve the Metal Gear stealth formula, and build upon the Metal Gear universe. According to Tomotada Tashiro, President of Konami Europe,

“Metal Gear Survive will offer a fresh take on the series’ famed stealth elements, but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multiplayer experience.”

Not much is shown in terms of gameplay, so we’ll have to wait and see if it’s co-op is in a top-down perspective like Laura Croft and the Temple of Osiris, or if it will take on more of a Ghost Recon style.

Metal Gear Survive aims for a 2017 release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
