At GDC today, Microsoft have revealed that their Windows Mixed Reality (VR/AR) experiences will be arriving to the Xbox One family of devices, including Project Scorpio, in 2018. Microsoft have partnered with leading device makers including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and 3Glasses to bring a wide range of Mixed Reality devices suited to a variety of needs. Microsoft will be shipping developer headsets created in partnership with Acer to their developer partners later this month. The specifications for this headset are listed below:
- Two high-resolution liquid crystal displays at 1440 x 1440
- Display refresh rate up to 90 Hz (native)
- Built-in audio out and microphone support through 3.5mm jack
- Single cable with HDMI 2.0 (display) and USB 3.0 (data) for connectivity
It seems that Microsoft have been playing close attention to the success of the PSVR, and are stepping up their game in relation to bringing the technology from the HoloLens to their range of consoles.
