Last year saw the launch of the Nintendo Switch and it took the world by storm. The Switch has a huge library of games to download, but the most downloaded Switch game of 2017 was Indie darling Stardew Valley.
Earlier today, Nintendo released rankings of the most downloaded Switch games of 2017. It is important to acknowledge that no sales numbers were attached with the charts and both lists only contain video games that were released in Japan. Regardless of the circumstances, Stardew Valley tops the global chart as the most downloaded game in 2017. The game has been both a critical and financial success for Eric Barone and publisher Chucklefish. Our own Jordan Aslett gave the Switch port a 9 out of 10 calling it a “truly remarkable game”. Second on the list was Minecraft with Sonic Mania coming in at third place. Rounding out the top five was Rocket League and Snipperclips at fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Japanese only rankings had much different results. Minecraft takes the number one spot but more surprisingly Stardew Valley is not even on the list. Stardew Valley first released back in 2016 and it will soon be adding a new multiplayer expansion. What do you think will be the Switch’s most downloaded game in 2018?
