Netflix to Implement Geoblocking

The video-streaming service Netflix has plans to prevent users from accessing content which is not available in their home country. “In coming weeks, those using proxies and unblockers will only be able to access the service in the country where they currently are”, David Fullagar, Vice President of Content Delivery Architecture at Netflix said in a blog post on Thursday.

Their eventual goal is to do away with content licencing by geographical territories and instead have all content globally available but they still have a long way to go, even after expanding to 190 countries as of last week. No details as to how exactly they will accomplish this have been released, so we will have to wait and see how effective this will be.
