Star Wars Day (May 4) has brought some amazing news. Patrick Soderlund, an executive of EA Studios, announced that they are working with the developers of Titanfall, Respawn Entertainment, on a third person, action-adventure Star Wars game.
Respawn was founded by Call of Duty veterans Vince Zampella and Jason West and is the first external studio to work with EA on new Star Wars games. EA has a big plan in mind. Capital Games, Visceral Games, DICE, BioWare and Motive are owned by EA and are currently working on other Star Wars titles.
“Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Vince Zampella and his group,” Soderlund said. “Their obsession with making games that feel amazing has helped make Titanfall one of the most successful new game launches of this generation.”
Leading Respawn’s development of said Star Wars game is Stig Asmussen, director of God of War 3 who joined Respawn in 2014. No further details have been announced, but Soderlund says he’s excited to see what Respawn can do with the combination of the developer’s “great attention to gameplay with the power of Star Wars.”
Asmussen was so happy to influence this game that he posted a blog stating this was a “chance of a lifetime.” In short Asmussen says the entire studio was cheering when they got news that Respawn will be making a new Star Wars game. Promising to honor the Star Wars legacy, Asmussen regrets that he cannot share any more on the game.
The various EA owned studios are all working on interesting projects and it seems they plan to hit all levels of gamers. From a AAA shooter to a free MMORPG, it looks like we can expect storm troopers in the future.
