In the first time since Interbrand started ranking the top 100 brands in the world, Nintendo has failed to make the cut. Only six Japanese brands made the cut: Sony, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Canon and Panasonic. Yuki Wada, CEO of Interbrand, has said that he thinks this might have to do with the fact that Nintendo has just made the move into the smartphone market. Nintendo has made a deal with mobile gaming monolith DeNA and plans to release at least five mobile games by the end of 2017, and their first smartphone game is supposed to come out by the end of this year. Due to former president Satoru Iwata untimely passing, it’s not certain that Nintendo will stick to this timetable as no announcements have been made.
