The Pokémon CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara has added further fuel to the fires of rumour. He has implied that the Nintendo NX will be a fusion between a console and a hand-held device. It’s certainly a bold move for Nintendo, but bold moves are what’s likely to turn their fortunes around after a less than stellar sales performance from the Wii U. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ishihara said that: “The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device.” He then added the confirmation that The Pokémon Company “…will make games for the NX.”
While not definitive proof that the Nintendo NX will be a hybrid system, Ishihara’s words definitely suggest insider knowledge. Or perhaps he’s only guessing, just like the rest of us. There have already been a plethora of rumours surrounding the Nintendo NX, and this could just be grasping at straws. That being said, the main Pokémon games have always had hand-held releases. It makes sense then that since Ishihara will be making games for the Nintendo NX, the new console will better suit having what are usually hand-held games being played on it. Whatever the case may be, Nintendo have not commented in response to Ishihara’s words. One gleaming fact is that the Nintendo NX is pegged for a March 2017 release. Not long to wait now.
