Nintendo formally announced they are releasing Pokémon BluePokémon Red, and Pokémon Yellow for the Nintendo 3DS eShop in commemoration of the series’ 20th anniversary, according to a press release issued by the company earlier this morning. They will be available for digital download on February 27 and will cost $9.99 a piece.

On that same day, Nintendo is also releasing a Pokémon-themed New Nintendo 3DS 20th anniversary system (previously covered here) which comes with an exclusive Pokémon HOME Menu, Pokémon Blue, and Pokémon Red pre-installed on the system. It will retail for $199.99.

With so much Pokémon already announced this year, I wonder if Nintendo has anything else up their sleeves to celebrate one of its most storied franchise’s 20th anniversary?
