In a rather sad turn of events, humans versus vampires simulator Nosgoth will be shutting down its servers on May 31, 2016. This closure, announced on the Square Enix forums and later through the game’s website, cited a lack of profits to allow for sustainability on the title. The full PR statement from Oghamsmith on the Nosgoth website is below:
“It is with regret that today we can confirm that development for Nosgoth has officially ceased and we are winding down support for the game.
Between now and 31st May 2016 Nosgoth will remain available to play, after which the game will go offline.
On behalf of the entire Nosgoth team we want to thank the community for all their feedback, support and dedication to the game during the closed and open beta phases. It’s been a pleasure to build this game with your help, but ultimately its audience hasn’t grown enough to sustain ongoing operations. For more information please see this FAQ.”
The franchise’s future is still up in the air, though, and any future Legacy of Kain projects will be considered independent. It’s always a rather bittersweet moment when a game is forced to close out, and definitely a shame because the game had promise and favorable game play. Here’s to hoping the team is able to get back on its feet and start afresh.
