The official Overwatch Twitter account recently released a new video teasing a brand new event coming to the ever-expanding shooter. Though short in length and detail, the video tells that the new event will launch on January 24th.

This new event is aptly titled, Year of the Rooster, and shows off Mei in a brand new skin. There is also a tweet from Overwatch Korea that seems to show a very similar teaser but with a new D.Va skin.

Since the actual Chinese New Year is on January 28th, this event is launching a little ahead of schedule. Hopefully that means that this event will be similar the the previous ones and last for about a month. The past events have been themed around major holidays and events such as the Olympics, Halloween, and Christmas. Since this is a lesser known event, it may take some doing to ensure it is as popular and fun as its predecessors.
Luckily Blizzard and the Overwatch team have been nothing but generous to their fan base. The past events have included a plethora of new skins, emotes, sprays, and game modes. Year of the Rooster is sure to deliver just as much content; however, Blizzard has not given any information as to what the new event will entail, aside from the two new skins seen in the teaser videos.
There is a bit of a lull in major holidays and events during this time of the year, so it is nice to see Overwatch taking advantage of the Chinese New Year. The major hook for Overwatch has been its constant change and the delivery of new content, so it is important for the team to keep pumping out new content in order to compete with more popular shooters.
Aside from this event no new characters of maps have been announced for the near future. However, the new control map, Oasis, has just recently been released. And newest character, Sombra, has mixed up the paradigm enough to keep players on their toes until the next character is announced.
