The fan-favorite Battle Royale title PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has officially been announced to be getting a release on PlayStation 4 later this year. The news comes as a delight to many fans who have been waiting on the game’s PS4 release – even more so with a release date that’s in less than a month.
The company behind PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, PUBG Corporation, has now released confirmation that the game will indeed be released on PS4 early this December. The CEO of PUBG Corporation, Changhan Kim, stated that they’re looking forward to expanding the game further to PS4 and reaching out to include more console communities. Kim commented:
“PlayStation has developed an amazing community of passionate gamers and we can’t wait to join them this holiday season.”
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is an online Battle Royale style game where 100 players have to fight to survive to be the last one standing. It was firstly released on Windows in 2017, with an announcement coming later the same year for a release on Xbox One. Generally, the game received a notable reception and became popular throughout the gaming community fairly quickly. With continuously such high reviews, it’s fair to say that a PS4 console release has been eagerly awaited by many.
Leading up to the confirmation, there were many leaks pointing towards the potential announcement of a PS4 version in the works, though nothing has been set in stone until now. It’s also been announced that the PS4 version will include all of the notable features that the game has on PC and players will have access to the Sanhok, Erangel, and Miramar maps.
The news comes after a year of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds being released on Xbox One, with PS4 fans eagerly awaiting an announcement for their own console release. Microsoft initially had an exclusive hold on the console version of PUBG for a year, though the hold has now lapsed and the title will finally be expanding out further.
The PS4 version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be released on December 7th, just as Microsoft adds the title to its Game Pass subscription service. It is currently now available for players to pre-order.
