PlayStation E3 Conference: What it’s Like Viewed on the Big Screen

With E3 being the largest annual convention for fans of video games and gaming industry employees, you can imagine the crowds of people gathering from all around the world. Regrettably, many of us are stuck streaming the conferences on our electronic devices rather than breathing in the very essence of everything “video games.” No big deal, really. At least we’re given the opportunity to feel like we’re there, right? But it’s just not the same. Luckily, PlayStation recently began to extend their viewings to movie theaters. This way, fans could still unite and nerd out for no cost whatsoever. I must admit, it’s a damn good time.

Reserving a spot at the designated theater is first step in viewing PlayStation’s conference on the big screen. Along with a free guaranteed seat, PlayStation offers its guests trinkets. This year, everyone who attended their E3 conference at a cinema was presented with a poster, VIP card, and #76 from the PlayStation Collectible Card series. But wait – there’s more! PlayStation’s generosity doesn’t end there. On the back of everyone’s VIP card is a unique code that unlocks a digital gift basket to be redeemed on the PlayStation Store. It’s really not too shabby of a deal.

Granted, you aren’t in the comfort of your own home. You’re surrounded by an abundance of people who admire the video game industry as much as you do. Snag a hefty bucket of popcorn, sit back, and enjoy the ride. I know I sure did. For me, it was all about feeling like a part of the whole experience, and sharing that experience with others who were as enthused as I was.

Unfortunately, PlayStation’s conference this year wasn’t anything to write home about. The first hour appeared to drag on with a few decent announcements. The second hour (AKA the showcase) was what we were all on the edge of our seats for. When the showcase first aired, PlayStation was having some technical difficulties with their sound, at least on the theatrical end. Eventually, we were once again smooth sailing through an abundance of incredible gameplay footage, such as God of War and Days Gone. I, personally, was eagerly awaiting some sort of information regarding the Final Fantasy VII Remake. We can’t always have what we want. Nonetheless, the presentation of Detroit: Become Human was phenomenal, not to mention the beauty that is the newest Spider-Man.

To say the least, attending PlayStation’s E3 conference at a movie theater is worth experiencing. You get a decent chunk of free PlayStation knickknacks accompanied by surround sound and fellow nerds. PlayStation did right by showcasing their conference in cinemas. Even if it wasn’t as mind blowing as it has been in the past, there’s nothing quite like shoveling movie theater popcorn into your mouth while simultaneously geeking over video games on the big screen.
