In an announcement at the ongoing Game Developer Conference, Sony has announced the price and release date of the Playstation VR today. Sony’s take on the VR headset will be available in October this year, and will cost £349/€399/$399. This does not include the Playstation Camera which is required for head-tracking. The system also requires the use of Playstation Move controllers, which again require a separate purchase. The headset supports positional tracking, low latency and 360° audio and will have more than 50 games available by the end of the year.
Below is the list of items which will be available in the Playstation VR retail box.
- VR Headset
- Processor Unit
- USB cables
- Headset connection cable
- HDMI cable
- Power supply
Originally announced as Project Morpheus, the name was changed last year at the Tokyo Game show. The Playstation VR will be late to the competition with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive hitting shelves in the next few months, though Sony’s VR headset will be cheapest of the three available.
