Do you like Pokémon? Then you’re in luck! The North American Pokémon GO field test is underway, with application forms available right here. The Pokémon Company, working in hand with Niantic Inc. are developing Pokémon GO for Android devices and iOS, planning to launch sometime this year. This new take on Pokémon is unlike any before, encouraging players to explore outside to find more Pokémon in the world around them. This is done by combining mobile location technology and augmented reality. The game will interact with numerous people playing in multiple countries at the same time. Understandably, this is a huge undertaking, which is why they have opened a limited ‘field test’.

If the Pokémon GO field test interests you then here’s what you can expect as guidelines, if you get selected. First you must agree to privacy policies, as well as confidentiality. This is in place to restrict streams, blogs and reviews before the launch date. Field tester accounts will not be carried over upon launch, in fact progress and save data will be wiped multiple times during the test. There will be no rewards or premiums granted to testers, other than early access to the game. Developers explain that making the game better should be it’s own reward.

If you wish to assist with the Pokémon GO field test, ensure accuracy when filling out the sign up forms. Developers state confirmation of successful registration will only be sent once. Accidentally deleting the email or giving the wrong email address will forfeit your entry. On the note of accounts, tester status cannot be transferred, gifted or shared.

As with any augmented reality game, use caution and pay attention to the real world. Niantic has a disclaimer for this very reason. The Pokémon GO field test will be available in the US, Australia and New Zealand on Android devices running version 4.3 and iPhone 5 with iOS 8 or higher.
