It’s been an exceptionally quiet period since the initial announcement of Pokémon Sun and Moon, but The Pokémon Company has today broken that silence with a new trailer. The trailer introduces the new region, named the Alola region. If that wasn’t quite subtle enough, the region takes several design cues from Hawaii and the Pacific Islands, a significant departure from the Parisian-inspired Kalos region.
Perhaps more importantly, the trailer reveals the three new starter Pokémon. Rowlet is a Grass/Flying-type Pokémon modelled after an owl, while Litten is a Fire-type cat Pokémon. Rounding out the trio is Popplio, the Water-type sea lion. No evolutionary stages have been hinted yet, and all three starters follow the traditional ability set.
Finally, the conclusion of the trailer was dedicated to the cover legendaries, eventually giving way to the box art. Pokémon Sun will feature a rather elaborate white lion creature as its flagship, while the cover of Pokémon Moon will bear an elegant, crescent-shaped bird. The names, typing and abilities of these Pokémon are yet to be revealed.
Pokémon Sun and Moon are set to launch on November 18 in Japan and North America. and on November 23 in Europe.
