Psychonauts was originally a major flop, but a few years after its release, it became an extremely popular title in the gaming world. This led to many rabid fans begging for a well-deserved sequel. Originally, it seemed that the game’s creators, Double Fine, would never make a sequel for the amazing game, but that all changed at the 2015 Video Game Awards. Psychonauts 2 was officially announced at the event, but Double Fine said that they would need a total of $3.3 million to make it. Double Fine used the well known crowdfunding website, Kickstarter, to raise funds for Psychonauts 2. That goal was reached five days before the campaign was due to end. The game’s director, Tim Schafer, had this to say about the campaign:
“We’re so grateful to our backers for giving us this chance to continue the story of Raz and the Psychonauts. Knowing that they will be able to participate as investors in the game makes the whole thing feel more fair and more rewarding.”
It looks like Double Fine is very excited to work on the game and hopes to create a fun experience for everyone.
