Compulsion Games announced today that they have a concrete release date for their upcoming game We Happy Few. The game is planned for release on April 13th, 2018. While the game was originally announced in early 2015, and initially planed for a summer 2016 release, the game has taken some extra time to expand its gameplay and story. The game will be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as well as on PC through the Windows 10 Store, Steam, GOG.com, and the Humble Store.
We Happy Few takes place in the town of Wellington Wells, a take on 1960’s England where society is forced into conformity by taking the happiness inducing pill Joy. The story is told through the perspective of its three main characters. Not much has been revealed yet about the three protagonists other than they will each have their own strengths and weaknesses that impact the story in different ways, as well as some very dark personal secrets for players to discover. You can read a preview of the early portion of the game here.
Compulsion Games also made formal announcement of their partnership with Gearbox Publishing. In a statement received by Gamer Professionals, Guillaume Provost (Studio Head of Compulsion Games) expressed their excitement for the release of the game and their partnership with Gearbox.
“Our team was humbled by the initial public reception to We Happy Few, and delighted to have this chance to make it bigger. We’re longtime fans of Borderlands, and we’re excited to be part of a line-up that also includes games like Homeworld and Fortnite. Gearbox believed in us from the very beginning, and we think this partnership will make it possible to create the game that our community expects” -Guillaume Provost
Steve Gibson (Head of Gearbox Publishing) responded by saying “Compulsion Games has an amazing game vision and it’s an honor for Gearbox Publishing to contribute to the effort”.
