At the Tokyo Motor show on Wednesday, Yamaha unveiled an autonomous motorcycle-riding humanoid robot capable of riding an unmodified motorcycle named Motobot. Yamaha is aiming to travel faster than 200 km/h (124 mph) on a racetrack but did not disclose Motobot’s top speed. In a statement Yamaha indicates Motobot is also part of research efforts and wants to use the fundamental knowledge and know-how gained in the process to create advanced rider safety and rider-support systems. Motobot is still in the early stages of learning so it will be a while before it will be able to challenge professional riders.
